Ingredients

Main Bars

  • 2 ½ cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter - Softened
  • ¾ cup Brown sugar - Packed
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 4 medium Apples - Peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice - To prevent browning
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch - Thickens filling
  • ½ cup Caramel sauce - Store-bought or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky sea salt - For topping

Optional Homemade Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoon Butter - Cubed
  • ½ cup Heavy cream - Warmed
  • 1 teaspoon Sea salt - To finish

Instructions 

  • Set oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cream butter and sugars; add vanilla, salt, and flour.
  • Press ⅔ of dough into pan; bake 15 minutes.
  • Mix diced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch.
  • Simmer apples 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  • Spread apple mixture evenly over baked crust.
  • Crumble remaining dough over apples.
  • Bake another 30 minutes until golden.
  • Let cool 1 hour before cutting.
