Prep
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
Mix Dry
- Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
Mix Wet
- Beat sugar and oil until smooth, then mix in eggs, vanilla, and purple gel food coloring. 5 minutes
- Combine Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Bake
- Divide batter into pans, tap to remove air bubbles, and bake for 25-28 minutes. 25 minutes
Frost
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla; frost cooled cake layers.
