  • 1 lb Ground beef 85/15 lean
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 6 oz Mozzarella cheese Cubed
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese Grated
  • 0.75 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 medium Yellow onion Diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh basil Chopped
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh parsley Chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 cup Marinara sauce For glazing
  • 2 tablespoon Olive oil Extra virgin
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Method
 

  1. Combine ground meats, parmesan, breadcrumbs, eggs, onion, garlic, herbs, and seasonings
  2. Let meat mixture stand 10 minutes for breadcrumbs to absorb moisture
  3. Press half meat mixture in pan, add mozzarella, top with remaining meat
  4. Shape and seal edges to completely enclose cheese filling
  5. Brush top with olive oil, then marinara sauce for golden finish
  6. Cook at 350°F for 45-55 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F
  7. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing to set juices and cheese
  8. Slice and garnish with fresh parsley, serve with extra marinara

Notes

You can substitute ground pork with Italian sausage or adjust herbs based on availability. Add crushed red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
