  • 1 Bread Knife (Serrated)
  • 1 Pastry brush (For butter)

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread - Sliced lengthwise
  • 1 lb ground beef - 85% lean
  • ½ lb Italian sausage - Mild, casings removed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter - Melted, for garlic butter
  • 3 cloves garlic - Minced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce - Jarred or homemade
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste - Thickener
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese - Shredded
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese - Grated
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano - Seasoning
  • 1 small onion - Diced

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix melted butter, garlic, and parsley.
  • Slice bread lengthwise, brush with garlic butter, and bake 5–8 minutes until lightly toasted.
  • Brown beef, sausage, and onion in a skillet; drain fat.
  • Stir in marinara, tomato paste, and herbs; simmer 5 minutes until thick.
  • Spoon meat sauce over toasted bread and top generously with cheeses.

Notes

Toast the bread with garlic butter before adding the meat sauce to ensure it stays crispy. Use block mozzarella for the best melt.
