Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread Sliced lengthwise
  • 1 lb ground beef 85% lean
  • ½ lb Italian sausage Mild, casings removed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter Melted, for garlic butter
  • 3 cloves garlic Minced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce Jarred or homemade
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste Thickener
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese Shredded
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese Grated
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano Seasoning
  • 1 small onion Diced

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet Large rimmed

  • 1 Bread Knife Serrated
  • 1 Pastry brush For butter

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix melted butter, garlic, and parsley.
  2. Slice bread lengthwise, brush with garlic butter, and bake 5–8 minutes until lightly toasted.
  3. Brown beef, sausage, and onion in a skillet; drain fat.
  4. Stir in marinara, tomato paste, and herbs; simmer 5 minutes until thick.
  5. Spoon meat sauce over toasted bread and top generously with cheeses.
  6. Bake 10–12 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish and serve.

Notes

Toast the bread with garlic butter before adding the meat sauce to ensure it stays crispy. Use block mozzarella for the best melt.
