Ingredients

Butter Batter (makes ~12 servings)

  • 1 cup butter - softened (2 sticks)
  • 2 cups brown sugar - packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream - Optional but recommended

Per Individual Drink

  • 2 tablespoons butter batter
  • 2 oz dark rum - Spiced rum works too
  • 6 oz hot water or apple cider - Near-boiling
  • whipped cream - Topping
  • 1 stick cinnamon stick - Garnish
  • ground cinnamon or nutmeg - Dusting

Instructions 

  • Beat softened butter and brown sugar together until fluffy and fully combined.
  • Mix in cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, vanilla extract, and softened vanilla ice cream (optional).
  • Transfer the butter batter to an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Heat water or apple cider until steaming but not boiling.
  • Scoop 2 tablespoons of butter batter into a heat-safe mug.
  • Add dark rum to the mug and stir gently.
  • Slowly pour in the hot water or cider while stirring continuously until smooth and creamy.
  • Add whipped cream on top of the hot buttered rum.
  • Finish with a cinnamon stick and a light dusting of cinnamon or nutmeg.
