Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup Granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup Brown sugar packed
  • 2 large Eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups All-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 ½ cups Chocolate chunks semi-sweet
  • ½ cup Heart sprinkles pink and red

Equipment

  • 1 Electric mixer For creaming butter
  • 1 Heart Cookie Cutter Optional for shaping
  • 1 Baking Sheet Lined with parchment

Method

  1. Beat the softened butter with both granulated and brown sugars until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  2. Mix in the eggs one at a time and add the vanilla extract until the batter is smooth.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt before folding them into the butter mixture.
  4. Stir the semi-sweet chocolate chunks and half of the sprinkles into the dough with a spatula.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for thirty minutes to help maintain the heart shapes.
  6. Shape the cold dough into hearts by hand or use a heart shaped cookie cutter.
  7. Press the remaining Valentine sprinkles into the top of each cookie for a festive look.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 12 minutes until the edges are golden and the chocolate is melty.

Notes

Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking to help the heart shapes stay sharp. If you don't have a cutter, you can shape the dough logs by hand into a V-shape.
