- Cook ground beef in skillet; add onion, garlic, and half the seasonings. Drain excess grease.
- Slice potatoes into ¼-inch rounds; soak briefly in cold water and pat dry.
- Add half the potatoes to greased 9×13 dish and season lightly.
- Spread cooked ground beef evenly over potato base.
- Add remaining potatoes; dot with butter; pour broth around edges.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350°F for 60 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle cheeses on top.
- Bake uncovered 15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
- Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.
