Ingredients

For the Patties:

  • 2 lbs Ground Beef - 80/20 mix recommended
  • 1 Egg - Large
  • ½ cup Breadcrumbs - Regular or panko
  • 1 packet Onion Soup Mix - Store-bought or homemade

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups Beef Broth - Low-sodium recommended
  • 2 tablespoon Butter - Unsalted
  • 2 tablespoon Flour - All-purpose
  • 1 Onion - Thinly sliced

Seasonings:

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce - Adds depth of flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (Optional) - but recommended
  • ½ teaspoon Salt - Adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper - Freshly ground

Instructions 

Prepare the Patties

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, and onion soup mix.
  • Mix gently with hands until just combined. Do not overwork.
  • Shape into oval patties (about ½-inch thick).

Brown the Patties

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little oil if needed.
  • Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
  • Remove and set aside.

Make the Gravy

  • In the same skillet, add butter and sliced onions.
  • Cook until soft.
  • Sprinkle in flour and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.

Finish the Dish

  • Gradually pour in beef broth while whisking to avoid lumps.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.

Serve and Enjoy!

  • Spoon extra gravy over the patties and serve warm with mashed potatoes or rice.
