For the Patties:
  • 2 lbs Ground Beef 80/20 mix recommended
  • 1 Egg Large
  • ½ cup Breadcrumbs Regular or panko
  • 1 packet Onion Soup Mix Store-bought or homemade
For the Gravy:
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Low-sodium recommended
  • 2 tablespoon Butter Unsalted
  • 2 tablespoon Flour All-purpose
  • 1 Onion Thinly sliced
Seasonings:
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce Adds depth of flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (Optional) but recommended
  • ½ teaspoon Salt Adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper Freshly ground

Equipment

Method
 

Prepare the Patties
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, and onion soup mix.
  2. Mix gently with hands until just combined. Do not overwork.
  3. Shape into oval patties (about ½-inch thick).
Brown the Patties
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little oil if needed.
  2. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Remove and set aside.
Make the Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, add butter and sliced onions.
  2. Cook until soft.
  3. Sprinkle in flour and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
Finish the Dish
  1. Gradually pour in beef broth while whisking to avoid lumps.
  2. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  3. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
