Cinnamon Roll Cocktail

My book club meets monthly at my house, and someone always brings store bought cookies that nobody really wants. Last month I served this cinnamon roll cocktail instead of wine, and three people asked if I'd catered from a fancy cocktail bar. The best part? It takes less time to make than brewing coffee and tastes exactly like eating a warm Cinnabon while drinking the world's coziest drink.

What is Cinnamon Roll Cocktail

A cinnamon roll cocktail is a creamy, dessert inspired drink that combines cream liqueur like RumChata or Baileys with cinnamon whiskey, vanilla vodka, and caramel, creating a cocktail that tastes remarkably like a freshly baked cinnamon roll. Unlike regular cream based cocktails that can be one note sweet, this version layers spicy cinnamon warmth with vanilla sweetness and buttery caramel notes. The result is basically liquid cinnamon roll that's sophisticated enough for adults but tastes like pure comfort food indulgence.

How To Make Cinnamon Roll Cocktail

Our cinnamon roll cocktail uses the perfect ratio of RumChata to Fireball whiskey so you get creamy richness without overwhelming sweetness, plus that signature cinnamon spice kick. The secret is layering the caramel sauce on the inside of the glass first, which creates gorgeous swirls and adds extra bakery sweetness. After making this about thirty-five times for different gatherings, I've learned that presentation matters almost as much as taste with this one.

Cinnamon Roll Cocktail Ingredients

For the Cocktail:

  • 2 oz RumChata (or Baileys Irish Cream)
  • 1 oz Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
  • 1 oz vanilla vodka
  • ½ oz amaretto liqueur
  • 2 oz half and half or heavy cream
  • Ice cubes for shaking

For the Glass Decoration:

  • 3 tablespoons caramel sauce for drizzling
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla frosting (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar for rim

For the Topping:

  • Whipped cream (homemade or canned)
  • Extra caramel sauce for drizzle
  • Ground cinnamon for dusting
  • Cinnamon stick for garnish

Step by Step Method

Prepare Your Glass Beautifully

  • Drizzle caramel sauce inside glass in swirl pattern
  • Spread thin layer of vanilla frosting on rim if desired
  • Dip rim in cinnamon sugar mixture for sweet coating
  • Set aside while preparing cocktail mixture

Shake Up the Creamy Base

  • Add RumChata, Fireball, and vanilla vodka to cocktail shaker
  • Pour in amaretto and half and half for extra creaminess
  • Fill shaker with ice until nearly full
  • Shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds until ice cold

Build Your Cinnamon Roll Layers

  • Fill prepared glass with fresh ice cubes
  • Strain cocktail mixture over ice slowly and carefully
  • The caramel should create pretty swirls as you pour
  • Leave about inch at top for whipped cream topping

Crown with Bakery Style Topping

  • Pipe or dollop generous amount of whipped cream on top
  • Drizzle extra caramel sauce over whipped cream in zigzag
  • Dust with ground cinnamon for that authentic cinnamon roll look
  • Garnish with cinnamon stick and serve immediately

What Pairs Well With Cinnamon Roll Cocktail?

This indulgent cinnamon roll cocktail pairs beautifully with brunch dishes like french toast, pancakes, or breakfast pastries for ultimate morning decadence. We love serving it alongside cheese boards, chocolate desserts, or apple pie for after dinner drinks. For holiday gatherings, try it with gingerbread cookies, pecan pie, or pumpkin cheesecake. The cinnamon and vanilla flavors complement pretty much any sweet treat, making it perfect for dessert parties.

Storage Tips That Keep It Fresh

Best Fresh

  • Serve immediately after preparation for best taste and temperature
  • Whipped cream topping deflates quickly so add right before serving
  • Ice keeps cocktail properly chilled and slightly diluted
  • Fresh is always best with cream based cocktails

Make Ahead Strategy

  • Mix liquid ingredients without ice up to 2 hours ahead
  • Store covered in refrigerator until ready to serve
  • Prepare glasses with caramel drizzle earlier in day
  • Shake with ice and add toppings when guests arrive

Reheating Instructions

  • Never reheat cold version (defeats the purpose!)
  • For hot version, gently warm base in saucepan on low
  • Don't let cream based mixture boil or it will separate
  • Add whipped cream topping only after warming

Cinnamon Roll Cocktail Top Tips

RumChata and Baileys are not interchangeable even though everyone thinks they are. I learned this when my sister brought Baileys to Thanksgiving instead of RumChata because "they're basically the same thing." They're not. RumChata has this specific horchata flavor with cinnamon and vanilla that's crucial for the cinnamon roll taste. Baileys is chocolate and whiskey forward, which makes a totally different drink. My cousin Maria (who bartended in New Orleans for years) explained that RumChata is rice based like horchata, while Baileys is Irish cream. Both are delicious, but if you want that authentic cinnamon roll flavor, RumChata is absolutely worth buying specifically for this recipe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What alcohol goes with cinnamon?

Cinnamon pairs perfectly with whiskey (especially Fireball), rum, vodka, and bourbon. The warm spice complements brown spirits beautifully while adding depth to clear spirits.

Are RumChata and Kahlua the same?

No! RumChata is a horchata flavored cream liqueur with cinnamon and vanilla, while Kahlua is coffee flavored. They're completely different flavors and not interchangeable.

How do you make a cinnamon roll with vodka?

Mix vanilla vodka with RumChata, cinnamon whiskey, cream, and caramel sauce. Shake with ice and top with whipped cream for that cinnamon roll taste.

What drink goes best with cinnamon rolls?

Coffee, hot chocolate, or milk are classics. For adults, this cinnamon roll cocktail literally tastes like drinking the pastry itself.

Cozy Comfort Made Simple

Thirty-five batches later, this cinnamon roll cocktail has become my secret weapon for impressing guests without actually doing much work. Sometimes the best recipes are the ones that taste way more complicated than they actually are.

Your drink recipes look divine! I want to keep it non-alcoholic though. Can you recommend the correct way to go about it? I know just leaving out the alcohol is not enough as a whole flavor will go away if I do not find a substitute! Thanks.

You’re so right! simply leaving out the alcohol can change the flavor balance. For this drink, you can replace the cocktail components with flavorful non‑alcoholic options that still give body and complexity. Try using things like apple cider, ginger beer, or a spiced tea (like chai or cinnamon‑infused) in place of the alcohol. A splash of vanilla or caramel syrup can also add richness that pairs beautifully with the cinnamon‑roll flavors.

Non‑alcoholic bitters or a few drops of non‑alcoholic vanilla extract help deepen the flavor without adding alcohol. That way you get the same cozy, layered taste; just without the booze!
